Kudabeck Family

The Kudabeck family came through customs in Quebec, Canada, after travelling all the way from Poland. They then immigrated to the United States. They settled in Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin, not very far from the Canadian border where your great grandfather, Stephen Kudabeck was born and reared. He had 6 older brothers and one sister.

As were were told, Great, Great Grampa John Kadlubeck’s name was a bit unusual to the Canadian customs’ people. So, when taking the children through to register them, the name was spelled in different ways. Some were registered as Kudabeck, & others as Kadubek, Kodubeck, Kadlubeck, and other spellings.  This can be shown today by the spelling of the street that your third cousins live on in the home town of Armstrong Creek, a very small town.  More details are in the PDF.

On Google Maps showing Armstrong Creek, the street that Great Uncle Stanley’s farm is on is called Kadubek Lane. Uncle Stanley  spelled our family name Kadubek. His sons still live on that street and use that spelling.

The original homestead where your Great, Great, Great Grandfather  raised black Clydesdale Horses is on Cemetery Lane. These beautiful big, strong horses are frequently referred to as Gentle Giants. He was extremely proud of his horses.

Violet Hartley, your great grandmother, was reared in Fish Creek on Douglas Island, Alaska, where the red marker is shown on the little map. That was very close to the capital of Alaska, Juneau. The map below shows these cities Fish Creek and Juneau. Both are very close to the beautiful Mendenhall Glacier shown in the second picture. She had two brothers Eddy and Charles.

Violet Hartley met Steve Kudabeck while he was on leave in Juneau when he was in the Coast Guard.
As the story goes, he fell in love with your great grandmother at first sight.
Shortly after that, they got married.
